Based in South India's buzzing print hub -Sivakasi; Orient Industries, has been in the print business since 1967. Established by Mr.N.P.S.S Nataraja Nadar, Orient Industries has been catering to commercial market segment and is a sister concern of the "Orient Unicorn Group" which is one of the leading book publishers in Sivakasi.
The firm started with an offset printing press and some cutting equipment. "In our initial days we started with commercial print jobs and then we concentrated primarily on printing of playing cards", says Mr. Muralidharan, son of Mr. N.Vathsalan - the CEO of Orient Industries.He adds, "It started as a partnership firm which my Grandfather established and was later taken over by my father. Now we are running it successfully for the third generation"
About 60% of the jobs of this 40 year old firm revolve around printing of playing-cards and the rest concern other commercial jobs such as books, diaries, calendars and so on. Orient Industries currently operates with a team 150 members, with a well established Admin, Marketing and Finance department. Mr. N.V.Giridharan and Mr.V.Chandra Mouli take care of Marketing and Business development.
The production facility has well equipped designing unit with latest software(s) and professional designers. They also have a robust Postpress in-house, which includes a Polar cutting device, Folding equipment, Sewing and Perfect binding equipment along with a Folder-gluer. To strengthen their press department, they have procured a Heidelberg Speedmaster SM 52 single-colour press recently.
The Speedmaster SM 52 is an economical solution for mid-segment printers with the largest sheet format being 370 × 520 mm (14.57 × 20.47 inches) and smallest being 105 × 145 mm (4.13 × 5.71 inches). The press can handle paper thicknesses from 0.03 mm to 0.4 mm.
About their future projects, Chandramouli says "Book publishing is a growing market in India and overseas. We plan to gear up our production facility to target this segment."
